[Also in Divisions B3 and G3] A method of mounting a chapter 2 such as an hour numeral on a timepiece dial 1 comprises the steps of forming at least one recess 3 in one side of the chapter and pressing material 4 from the dial plate into the recess. The dial may be of plastics or metal and the chapters may be of plastics, precious metal, plated, anodized or enamelled metal. The peg 4 of material is forced into the recess 3 by a stamping process. In one modification a tool having a pointed, conical end forces a sleeve of material into each recess 3 and in a second modification a hole in the dial plate, aligned with the recess 3, has a smaller diameter than the recess 3 and the material surrounding the hole is forced into the recess in the form of a sleeve. Alternatively the dial plate may be formed with projections which are forced into the recesses in the chapters. The recesses 3 may extend completely through the chapters and be partly filled with decorative or phosphorescent material. Adhesive may be applied to the chapters prior to their fixing on the dial.
