Abstract

1,228,132. Regulating I.C. engine fuel supply. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. April 29, 1968 [Feb.2, 1967], No.5109/67. Heading F1B. In a fuel injection system comprising a pump 10 supplying fuel through a duct 11 to a rotary distributer 12 and injectors 13 in the inlet manifold, a spill valve 18 is controlled in response to the pressure drop across a supply duct restriction 20 and the fall in pressure created by an inlet manifold venturi 24. The operation of the spill valve is varied in accordance with air temperature by a temperature responsive spring, which biases the valve member 28a controlling the orifice 28b in the passage 27 connecting the upstream side of the venturi 24 to one chamber of the spill valve diaphragm 26. This chamber communicates with the diaphragm chamber subject to venturi throat pressure through a restriction 26a. Fuel-flow through the duct 11 is also controlled by the knife edge of a lever 32 operated by the capsule 30 communicating with the upstream side of the venturi; capsule 31 being evacuated. A valve 35 manually operable by a control 41 having normal running, idling and shut-off positions and a regulating control 42, control fuel-flow through a duct 33 and the duct 11 to the distributer 12. A further pump may supply fuel to the duct 11 through a duct 15 and change-over valve 16.
