Abstract

A flow regulating valve comprises a baffle plate 10 secured to one end of a shaft 12 supported in a bearing 13, and a piston 16 secured to the other end of the shaft co-operating with apertures 15 in a stationary sleeve. In operation, flow from an inlet 8 is throttled between the plate and a casing 7, and moves the plate against a loading spring 11 to cause the piston to regulate the flow through to apertures 15 and outlet 9 in response to variations in the inlet flow rate. The movements of the baffle plate can be damped by a separate cylinder. The valve can be fitted with a lever to adjust the loading of the spring 11, and to manually operate the valve. The baffle can have flow holes therethrough, and a notch in its lower portion to allow foreign bodies to pass. In Figs. 3 and 5, not shown, the baffle is conical with its apex towards the inlet. In Fig. 4, not shown, the baffle has peripheral flanges (17) to form labyrinths to increase turbulence. The piston in Fig. 5 moves in an orifice plate (18).
