Abstract

1,227,970. Triggering thyristors. HOLZER PATENT A.G. 21 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 40022/68. Heading H2F. [Also in Division G3] In a regulating circuit including an electronic switching device, such as a triac 31, means is provided to trigger the device at the zero points of the A.C. supply. A motor 32 supplied through the triac 31 drives an A.C. tachogenerator 20 whose output is rectified, smoothed and applied to a potentiometer 23 whose setting represents the desired motor speed. The portion tapped off by the potentiometer 23 is amplified by a two stage transistor amplifier 24, 29 and applied to the trigger electrode of the triac 31 so that it is switched on whenever the motor speed is below the set value and switched off when it rises above. Across the triac is a potential divider 35, 36 supplying a synchronizing voltage on line a. This is applied through diodes 37, 38 to the input and output of transistor 24 which is a phase inverting amplifier. There thus appears at the base of transistor 29 a full wave rectified version of the A.C. synchronizing voltage superimposed upon a D.C. level established by the speed voltage on potentiometer 23. The signal b at the trigger electrode is thus a fluctuating D.C. with peaks corresponding to the zero points of the supply and the triac is therefore fired only at the zero points. The triac may be replaced by a unidirectional thyristor (Fig. 3, not shown). The synchronizing voltage may be derived direct from the A.C. supply rather than across the thyristor 31 but the arrangement shown is preferable particularly where the voltage across the thyristor is out of phase with the supply.
