Abstract

1,227,734. Workpiece clamping. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. 11 April, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 17588/68. Divided out of 1,227,732. Heading B3B. The subject matter of this Specification is similar to that of the parent Specification but the claims are directed to a method and apparatus for securing a workpiece to a base member 1 by using a support element 6, 7, 8 which can be fixed to the base member 1 in different positions. A template 217 having an aperture corresponding in size and shape to the support element and defining a required position, is lowered into the base member 1 and the support element is placed on the base member through a corresponding aperture in the template. The support elements are bolted to the base member on a square grid pattern of holes and include a raised support surface for the workpiece and attaching means as described in the parent Specification. The present Specification further describes support elements (Figs. 9-14, not shown) having one fixing hole and an arcuate slot so they can be pivotally adjusted about a pivot bolt. The workpiece is clamped to the support element, which may have 2, 3 or 4 raised support surfaces, by a separate clamping member mounted above the workpiece. A long bolt, which acts as the pivot bolt, passes through the clamping member, workpiece, support element, and screws into the base member 1.
