A pink ceramic stain for incorporation in a glaze is prepared by calcining at above 700‹ C. a mixture consisting of the following ingredients in the mole proportions indicated:- Zirconium oxide .. .. 1 Silica .. .. .. .. .. 1 1À1 Iron sulphate heptahydrate (FeSO 4 .7H 2 0) .. .. 0À1 -0À25 Sodium fluoride .. .. 0À25-0À67 Sodium chloride .. .. 0À1-0À3 Ammonium- or alkali metal nitrate .. .. .. 0À03-0À1 A minor proportion of the iron sulphate heptahydrate may be added as an aqueous solution, while the major proportion is added as a solid. The silica is preferably added as quartz, but a portion of the quartz may be replaced by a diatomaceous earth (kieselguhr). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 986,751.
