Abstract
1,227,044. Deflecting propulsive jets. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. 2 April, 1969, No. 17239/69. Heading B7G. A jet propulsion engine has a thrust reverser or spoiler comprising at least one double skin jet deflector member movable from an inoperative to an operative position, each member 30 having a perforated front skin 16 and a rear skin 18 separated by a structure comprising S-shaped or honeycombed brace members which allow jet gases to contact the rear skin. In the operative position for the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 jet gases are deflected through apertures 34 closed by members 30 in the inoperative position. In an alternative embodiment a thrust spoiler is provided which in the operative position deflects the jet gases and in the inoperative position the deflector members are disposed on the outside of the jet pipe.
