A tumbler drier comprises a rotatable horizontal cylindrical drum 5, the circular loading port 5b of which acts as an exit for drying air passing through the drum and is arranged to register with a port 13 in front panel 2 of a cabinet, a door 29 (29A in Fig. 5) including a lint filter 35 (35A in Fig. 5) and a motor 16 which drives drum 5 via a belt 15 passing around the drum and the output shaft of the motor, and a centrifugal impeller 20 for forcing air past a heater 25 and through the perforated end wall of the drum. In Fig. 1 the filter (e.g. of glass fibre) is retained over an aperture in door member 32 by a cap 36 and a perforated disc 37 is rotatably mounted on armed support 32b to prevent entry of articles being dried into the aperture. In Fig. 5 the filter 35A is mounted on hub B of perforated door member 32A and retained thereon and covered by perforated disc 37A mounted on screw E retained in hub B. The drier may have a cut-out switch in the motor circuit linked with the door as a safety measure and may have means for preventing overheating.
