Noxious gases, collecting and conveying away. -In a device for recovering solvent in processes such as waterproofing fabrics, in which air is drawn over the fabric to be treated, passed through a condenser, heated, and returned to the fabric, means are provided whereby a portion of the air only may pass over the fabric, the remainder being circulated through a by-pass; means are also provided whereby the size of the aperture through which the air passes to and from the fabric may be adjusted according to the width of the fabric. The fabric passes through a closely fitting hood D from which air and vapours are drawn by a fan G through passages E, e, E<1> provided with screens e<1>. From the fan G the air and vapours pass through a condenser G', and the air freed from vapour passes through passages f<3> containing heating pipes H, and passages F back to the hood D. A portion of the air is returned to the condenser G<1> through a by-pass g, provided with regulating-valves g'. The passages E, F communicate with the hood D by slots over which flexible covers L, Fig. 4, can be drawn by rack and pinion gearing, so as to regulate the width of the slot. The space between the covers L and the fabric is closed by side covers d<1> moving with the covers L. A modification suitable to roller apparatus is also described.
