Abstract
1,226,840. Switchgear structures. " COQ " N.V. 9 Aug., 1968 [23 Aug., 1967],No. 38110/68. Heading H1N. In a metal clad switchgear comprising a plurality of individual gas-filled compartments, each compartment having a volume less than a certain minimum volume is connected to another compartment, the combined volume of the two compartments being greater than the minimum, by a passage normally shut-off or restricted but which is opened to prevent explosions if the pressure in the small compartment rises excessively. Small compartments 35, 38 are connected to main compartments through passages 43, 46 which are partially closed by breakable diaphragms 44, 48. Small openings in these diaphragms allow normal equalization of pressure. All the main compartments are supplied with compressed gas (e.g. SF 6 ) through ducts 53, 55. The chambers 29, 31 of isolating switches are connected through ducts 72 with diaphragms 73 to the main chamber 40. In addition, the space 28, 30 above a sliding screen 26, 27 is connected to the chamber 40 by a valve 51, 52 coupled to the screen and a wide bore duct 49, 50 in the closed position of the screen. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown), a pressureoperated sleeve valve (76, 79) is built into the partition (71) between the compartments.
