Abstract
1,226,551. Air cushion vehicles. HOVERCRAFT DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 2 April, 1968 [7 April, 1967], No. 16127/67. Addition to 1,109,562. Heading B7K. An air cushion vehicle as claimed in claim 1 of Specification 1,109,562 wherein the skirt comprises two interlocking sets of inner and outer U-section elements 18 and 15, has the crowns 16, 18 of the members respectively attached to panels 25, 26 which are detachably secured at 27, 28 to vehicle structure 29, e.g. at the bow, to form a bag-like structure which is inflated through apertures 36. Air passes from the bag or upper stage of the skirt through apertures 37 directly into the cushion and through apertures 38 to first inflate the U-section elements and then to feed the cushion. The upper edges of sides 20 of the inner U-section elements 18 are secured to the juncture of crowns 16 and panel 25 by ties 21 and the side panels 17 of the outer U-section elements 15 are connected by cords 30 to an actuator 32 which, when energized selectively draws in or lets out the skirting elements thereby adjusting the C.P. position with respect to the C.G. position to trim the vehicle. A similar construction (Fig. 4, not shown) is described for the sides of the vehicle.
