Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A louvre window suitable for mounting at the upper end of a glazed window 104 Fig. 4 comprises a first set of slots 12 and a second set of slats 10 interposed between the slats 12 the two sets of slats being formed from materials having different light transmission factors and the slats 10 and/or 12 being rotatable to alter their inclinations so as to permit more or less air or more or less light incident in the direction of the arrow, to pass through. In Fig. 1 slats 1a are hollow aluminium rotatable, slats filled with polyurethane foam to reduce heat transmission. Fig. 1(a) shows condition for maximum light direct transmission, or slats 12 transparent or translucent and fixed slats 10 opaque Fig. 1(b), with slats 10 having an upper reflective surfaces gives maximum light to ceiling, medium air transmission, no direct light transmission; Fig. 1(c), maximum air transmission with high degree of shading from direct and indirect sunlight. Many variations are described for different factors of transmission of light of the slats 10 and 12. Also slats 12 may be adjustable as to inclination. In Fig. 13 slats 100 are fixed and slats 102 are rotated in unison by a bar and over centre linkage mechanism 108, 104 controlled by spring 116. The slats 100 may be similarly controlled. The slats are mounted on the discs 110 which may be provided with circumferential teeth for operation by a worm gear (Fig. 22 not shown) neoprene seals are formed between contacting parts of the two sets of slats, Figs. (14, 16) may be formed at the ends of the fixed slats 12 (Figs. 3a and 3b not shown).
