Abstract
In order to avoid overheating on hot sunny days, to allow solar heating on cooler days and to reduce nocturnal heat loss especially from greenhouses and conservatories, the invention provides an enclosure which is directly exposed to climatic conditions and is bounded by one or more walls at least a portion of whose area is transmissive of light radiation, characterised in that the or at least one such light transmitting wall area 16 bears a coating 17 on a surface thereof which is directed away from the interior of the enclosure. The coating 17 is adapted to increase the infra-red reflectivity of the wall area 16 to which it is applied. A movable screen 21, e.g. a roller blind, is mounted within the enclosure in such manner that it can be moved to screen such wall area 16 while being spaced therefrom. The screen may be at least partly transparent or reflective or may be opaque.
