Abstract

In the shear-type viscous fluid coupling of 1,104,151, the non-metallic facial thrust and circumferential journal bearing facings are formed from an elastomer resistant to set, wear, and loss of elasticity at temperatures up to 250‹ C. The elastomer may comprise a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene, or a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and 1-hydropentafluoropentene. The facings are formed from one piece mouldings, and diverge or, preferably, converge towards the periphery of the driving member by 4- 8 thou. for a facing thickness of 30-40 thou.
