1,226,249. Dibenzothiepin derivatives. SPOFA, UNITED PHARMACUTICAL WORKS. 24 Oct., 1969, No. 52163/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of Formula I in which R is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 hydroxyalkyl, and acid addition salts thereof, are prepared by reacting an 8 - halo - 10,11- dihydrodibenzo[b,f]thiepin - 10 - one with a heavy metal cyanide to form 8 - cyano - 10,11- dihydrodibenzo[b,f]thiepin - 10 - one, reducing this to form 8 - cyano - 10,11 - dihydro - dibenzo[b,f]thiepin - 10 - ol, reacting this with an acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid, to form the corresponding reactive ester, and reacting this with a compound of Formula II and, if desired, reacting the resulting compound of Formula I with an acid to form an acid addition salt thereof. The novel compounds and their acid addition salts have neuroleptic activity. 8 - Cyanodibenzo[b,f]thiepin is obtained as a by-product in the reaction of 10 - chloro - 8- cyano - 10,11 - dihydrodibenzo[b,f] - thiepin with 1 - methylpiperazine.
