Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A valve controlling the fuel supply to an engine, and adapted for rapid cyclic operation, comprises a closure member 15 biased to an open position by spring 16 and closed by armature 13 of coil 7 via a stem 12 having a limited lost-motion relative to member 15 as defined by adjustable stop 6. Iron bushes 9, 20 and brass bushes 10, 11 guide the stem and armature. In Fig. 3, (not shown), the armature is spring-centred between a pair of coils (7, 7<SP>1</SP>) the latter of which assists movement in the valve opening direction. In Figs. 4 and 5, (not shown), the additional coil (7<SP>1</SP>) overcomes a spring (24) which closes the valve when the ignition is switched off. In Fig. 6, (not shown), the armature (26) works outside the coil and the stem (12) extends through a sealing ring (27) to engage closure member (15).
