Abstract

1,225,517. Paper-making machines. BELOIT CORP. 18 April, 1968 [26 May, 1967], No. 18332/68. Heading D2A. A paper-making machine has means for changing the downward deflection of the forming board 12 with changes in deflection of the breast roll 11 in the cross machine direction. In Fig. 1, the board 12 has interconnected portions 13, 14, 15 provided with pins 21, 22 slideably engaged in a support frame 23 to permit vertical deflection adjustment of the board. Rows of fluid bellows 26, 27 mounted on frame 23 apply upward forces on the board and are controlled by individual variable values so that the board deflection can be controlled in the cross machine direction. A save all pan receives water from between portions 13, 14, 15. In Fig. 6, the forming board has heated and cooled fluid chambers 43 and 42 and the temperature differential between them, which is varied, causes the centre of the board to deflect downwardly with respect to the ends in the cross machine direction. The temperature differential may be obtained by supplying cool water or a refrigerant and hot water or steam to chambers 42, 43 respectively; or thermocouple elements may be used. In Fig. 7, the forming board has members 60, 61, 62 provided with individual interconnected tanks 63, 64, 65, each tank being provided with baffles 68 with openings 69. The board deflection is controlled in the cross machine direction by changing the quantity of water in the tanks.
