[Also in Division H2] A protection sleeve for insulating or sealing T- or Y- junctions consists of a piece of flexible thermally unstable insulating material which contracts on heating. The piece 1 consists of a main branch 2, and two lateral branches 3, 4 which may be perpendicular to the main branch as shown for a T-junction or inclined on either side of the main branch at some other angle for a Y-junction. When the main branch is folded over the conduit 5, the two lateral branches 3, 4 together enclose the conduit 6 (Fig. 18, not shown), and when the assembly is heated the sleeve contracts on to the junction (Fig. 19, not shown). The piece 1 is preferably coated on the inside surface with an insulating layer which melts upon heating to provide a seal. Methods for locking the piece 1 over the junction are: rib and groove (Figs. 2 and 3), integral triangular studs (Figs. 4 and 5), separate strip (Figs. 6 and 7), studs or rivets in holes (Figs. 8-11), welding or gluing (Fig. 12), welding by embedded resistance wire (Fig. 13), or direct fastening (Figs. 14-16).
