Abstract

1,225,116. Granulation of sulphur. FISONS FERTILIZERS Ltd. 7 June, 1968 [28 July, 1967], No. 34731/67. Heading C1A. Molten sulphur, or a molten composition containing sulphur is formed into droplets, preferably at a temperature of 110 » 160‹ C., and allowed to fall through a zone containing a dust bearing gas and thereafter the granulated sulphur is collected. The dust may be sulphur dust, preferably of particle size less than 70 microns, alone or in admixture with for example a carbonate or a catalyst for the oxidation of sulphur. The dust bearing gas, which may be N 2 or CO 2 , preferably flows upwards at a rate of 1À0-4À0 ft./sec. and supports 1-10 1bs. of dust per cubic foot. The granules are best collected in a bed of sulphur dust particles which is maintained in a state of fluidization or incipient fluidization. The specified composition which may be used is a solution of phosphorus in molten sulphur.
