1,224,821. Ultrasonic inspection devices. DR. J.U.H. KRAUTKRAMER GES. FUR ELEKTROPHYSIK. 6 March, 1969 [11 March, 1968], No. 11924/69. Heading H4D. Apparatus for rapidly establishing and maintaining the accurate positioning of transducers relative to the surface of a workpiece 1 being advanced through a non-destructive (magnetic, electric or pulsed ultrasonic) testing station comprises spring-mounted funnel 5b for guiding the workpiece leading end into transit section 5a in which peripheral guides 6 (Fig. 2) (with lead-in rollers or slopes 12, 13) are urged against the workpiece faces by banks of springs 7a, 7b. Guides 6 carry gimbal-mounted transducers 8 in supports 10. A second funnel 5c, is used if workpieces are to be passed in both directions through the testing station.
