Abstract

1,224,808. Power cables and reels therefor. J. H. CARRUTHERS & CO. Ltd. 6 Oct., 1969 [6 Nov., 1968], No. 52608/68. Heading B8M. A reel 10 is provided in combination with an electrical power cable 16 composed of a plurality of conducting cores laterally spaced in a protective cover of laterally oblong cross-section, the reel defining an annular slot 14 of a width to accommodate the cable width so that the cable forms a single spiral in the slot 14. The protective cover of the cable is preferably of rectangular cross-section, the conducting cores being of round-section and having their axis in a transverse plane parallel to the wide faces of the cover. The reel 10 is preferably provided with strengthening ribs 15 between the hub 12 and flanges 13. The combination is preferably used on a movable structure, e.g. a reciprocable crane, travelling to and from a fixed power supply point.
