Abstract

1,224,627. Resin-pigment compositions. COLUMBIAN CARBON CO. 18 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 29047/68. Headings C3Q and C3R. [Also in Division C4] Pigment dispersions in hard resins, are prepared by dry grinding or dry milling a crude pigment in the presence of the resin to reduce its particle size to that suitable for pigmentation. Pigments specified are phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green, carbazol violet, or a vat colour. 1-8 parts by weight may be used per part of resin. Resins specified are a rosinmodified p-tertiary butylphenol/formaldehyde resin and a chlorinated rubber. Up to 100%. based on the weight of the resin of a pigment extender, e.g. clay, may be added before grinding. The grinding mixture may include rod shaped grinding slugs or nails to prevent caking. The product may be used dry for extrusion coating or as a paste or liquid dispersion for paints or printing inks. Liquid media specified are petroleum and toluol.
