Abstract

1,226,414. Pigment resin compositions. COLUMBIAN CARBON CO. 18 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 29048/68. Headings C3P and C3R. Pigment dispersions are prepared by salt grinding a crude pigment in the presence of a dispersion vehicle to reduce its particle size to that suitable for pigmentation and then removing the salt. 50-700% of pigment may be used based on the weight of the dispersion vehicle. Pigments specified include phthalocyanine green, a green shade of phthalocyanine blue, carbazol violet, quinacridone pigments and vat pigments. The dispersion vehicle may be a resin, e.g. polyethylene, an oil-modified isophthalic acid alkyd, a rosin modified phenolic resin or a rosin fumarate. This may be in solution in, for example, petroleum-Lorol (Registered Trade Mark) diethanolamine mixture, petroleum, or diethylene glycol. The salt grinder may be heated. After grinding the salt and any water-miscible solvent may be extracted with water and the press-cake produced dispersed in another solvent, e.g. a glycol, alcohol or toluol to give a masterbatch for use in preparing paints or printing inks.
