Abstract

1,224,411. Testing gear wheels. WERKZEUGMASCHINEN KOMBINAT "FRITZ HECKERT" KARL-MARX-STADT VEB. Feb. 18, 1969, No. 8771/69. Heading G1M. In a method of testing gear wheels 8, 9, one gear wheel 8 is rotated by an input drive which is isolated from the gear wheels during the test process. The apparatus for performing the method comprises a housing 1 in which a displaceable carriage 5 is mounted in guide means 4. A spindle 7 for the gear wheel 9 is secured in the carriage in a support 6, an eddy current brake 24 and a rotary oscillation pick up 25 being mounted on the spindle. A spindle 3 for the gear wheel 8 is connected to a flywheel 11 by a coupling 13 and a second rotary oscillation pick up 10 is secured to the end of the spindle. A motor 23 rotates the flywheel 11 via friction discs 14, 15, the disc 14 being mounted on a bridge which is movable in a direction perpendicular to the rotational axis of the disc to disengage the drive from the motor to the flywheel. When rotation has been imported to the gear wheel 8, the motor drive is disengaged and the eddy current brake system is engaged to ensure tooth flank contact between the gear wheels 8, 9 under test. The pick ups are connected in an electrical circuit and measure the effects of errors due to the drive and due to the gears, the former errors being eliminated by the circuit since they are only recorded by the pick up 10. The pick ups may alternatively comprise spring restrained gimbal suspended gyros.
