Abstract

1,224,364. Valves. DURABLA MFG. CO. 3 Aug., 1968, No. 37142/68. Heading F2V. A magnetic valve comprises a seat member 20 having formed therein flow ports 23, a stopmember 22, a stem 21 which retains the seat and stop-members in a predetermined relative separation, and a closure member 31, the closure member being formed of two metallic layers 25, 26 having interposed between them a layer 27 of magnetic rubber. The magnetic rubber may be moulded to contain large numbers of extremely finely divided magnetic barium ferrite particles. Furthermore either the stem 21 or the collar 29 disposed therearound may be made of magnetic material having a polarity opposite to that of the rubber such that the valve member is at all times kept centralized-so minimizing wear on its edgeswhilst moving between the seat and stop members, the latter of which carries a magnetic ring 30 having the same polarity as that of the rubber. Figs. 3 to 9, not shown, depict various modifications each having a multi-layer valve member of which at least one of the layers is made from magnetic rubber, and in each of which the member is reciprocable between a seat and a magnet-carrying stop.
