Lubricants, hydraulic fluids and fuel oils comprise an oil and a salt formed between (1) a diamine of formula where R and R<SP>1</SP> are alkyl radicals which may be olefinically unsaturated and which together contain 6-22 carbon atoms and (2) an amidocarboxylic acid of formula where R 1 is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 22 alkyl radical which may be olefinically unsaturated, y is 1-3 and Z is R 1 or -C 2 H 4 OH, -(CH 2 ) 2 CN or -(CH 2 ) y COOH; (1) and (2) may be employed in non-equivalent amounts.
