Abstract

1,223,564. Endless-tracks. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN Ltd. 8 May, 1968 [9 May, 1967], No. 21408/67. Heading B7H. To prevent extension of chain pitch caused by wear between the usual link connecting pins and bushes in a conventional track chain for a tractor, the pins and bushes are replaced by lengths of metal wire rope 6 longitudinally arranged between and connected to adjacent chain links 2 whereby the chain pitch remains constant thus extending the life of the chain track and its associated driving and idler sprockets. As shown, each pair of adjacent links 2 are connected by four wire ropes 6 having swaged ferrules 9 at their ends which locate in corresponding sockets 10 in the links, each link 2 thus having 8 wire ropes 6 arranged four each side of the link centreline and directed in pairs each side to the oppositely adjacent links 2. Flared bearing surfaces 8, 7 in the link ends are provided to support the wire ropes 6, and correspond respectively to the assumed form of the chain track as it passes over uneven ground surfaces and over the chain sprockets, the sprockets (not shown) having involute form teeth engaging corresponding teeth 11 centrally formed in the links.
