A sound insulating building element comprises two or more sandwiched glass plates wherein adjacent plates are bonded together over their entire contiguous surfaces by a film of vinyl acetate copolymer adhesive which is transparent, viscous, elastic and sound absorbing. The internal sound energy losses in the adhesive layer eliminate the deterioration in sound insulation which would otherwise occur at the coincidence frequencies of the glass plates.
