Abstract

1,223,412. Disc brake pads. AUTELA COMPONENTS Ltd. 22 March, 1968 [23 Dec., 1966], No. 57680/66. Heading F2E. A disc brake pad assembly comprises one or more moulded-in edge bearing members to take the braking thrust, the members extending over only a part of the periphery and only part of the thickness. The use of a backing plate is thus avoided. In Figs. 8, 9, 10 and 11 the edge bearing members extend across the back to take the piston thrust and may extend outwards to provide a holding portion. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the members are angle-pieces moulded in at protuberances of the friction material and studs, respectively. The arcuate portions 15 of Fig. 8 engage anti-rattle springs. The bearing members may be of metal of polyurethane. When the pad is worn to the bearing member a noticeable reduction in braking force occurs and the engagement with the disc may operate an electrical or other warning.
