Abstract

1,223,325. Making dispersion hardened copper alloys. FURUKAWA DENKI KOGYO K.K. Nov.15, 1968 [Jan.27, 1968; Aug. 3, 1968 Aug.29, 1968], No.54317/68. Headings C7A and C7D. Wire or plate of an alloy comprising:- the balance being Cu in an amount of at least 99%, is internally oxidized at above 600‹ C. for long enough to completely oxidize the solute atoms and at an internal oxidation velocity which is at least as large as a critical velocity above which the oxidized alloy is not susceptible to recrystallization after cold working and high temperature annealing. The wire or plate is coated with a slurry of cuprous oxide, a thermally stable sinter inhibitor and water or an organic solvent which is unreactive towards the Cu alloy and the slurry constituents and has a boiling point lower than 200‹ C. (e.g. one or more alcohols, ethers, ketones or aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or halogenated hydrocarbons), the slurry is completely dried and the coated body embedded in a protective agent which is thermally stable and unreactive with any other component of the system. The sinter inhibitor and the protective agent may each be one or more of Al 2 O 3 , MgO CuO, SiO 2 and magnesium zirconate.
