Abstract

1,223,324. Lasers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 25 July, 1968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 35460/68. Heading H1C. A gas laser comprises a glass tube 10 terminated by Brewster windows, spaced locations in the tube communicating with a plurality of by-pass tubes 12, 14, 16 of larger cross-section. The tubes contain either argon or an argonxenon mixture which is excited from a square wave or sinusoidal source 22 by a coil 20 wound on a magnetic core 18. A single coil may be used or a plurality of coils connected in parallel. It is stated that the by-pass tubes reduce the amount of leakage flux from the coil 20.
