Abstract

1,223,233. Calcium hypochlorite. NIPPON SODA CO. Ltd. 20 May, 1969, No. 25640/69. Heading C1A. Calcium hypochlorite is produced by chlorinating in a first stage a mixture of caustic soda and an aqueous solution saturated with sodium chloride and calcium hypochlorite, separating the precipitated sodium chloride, adding a calcium hydroxide-water slurry to the filtrate chlorinating in a second stage and separating the precipitated cyrstalline calcium hypochlorite and mother liquor from the reaction mixture. The mother liquor may be recycled as the aqueous saturated solution containing calcium hypochlorite and sodium chloride. Preferably, the caustic soda solution contains more than 50% by weight NaOH, and the reaction mixture should preferably always be at least just alkaline. The water content after the second chlorination should be between 58 and 68% by weight.
