Abstract
1,222,950. Isoprene. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 8 Aug., 1969, No. 39851/69. Heading C5E. Isoprene is obtained by contacting a gaseous mixture of oxygen and tert-butyl methyl ether with a catalyst at elevated temperature. Suitable catalysts comprise oxides of Mo, V, W and U. These may additionally contain a variety of promoters, and may be supported on a variety of carriers. By-products isobutylene, methanol and formaldehyde may be recycled, since in the presence of the above catalysts additional isoprene may be formed therefrom. In examples, the following catalysts are used, in each case on a silica support: (1) MoO 3 , (2) V 2 O 5 , (3) WO 3 , (4) VO 3 , (5) oxides of Mo + Bi + P, (6) oxides of Mo + W + Bi, and (7) oxides of Mo + V + W + Bi.
