Abstract

1,222,619. Fluidized beds; calcining hydrates. OSTERREICHISCHE STICKSTOFFWERKE A.G. 2 Sept., 1969 [4 Sept., 1968], No. 43449/69. Headings F4B and F4G. Hydrates such as those of AlF 3 , CaSO 4 or Na 2 SO 4 are calcined in a pair of fluidized bed furnaces I and II, each comprising a generally D-shaped casing 1 formed into a U-shape by a dividing wall 9 extending vertically from a gas distributer plate 5 to a top lid 13 and horizontally to the centre of inner and outer rows of U-shaped heating tubes 3 and 4 arranged concentrically and extending longitudinally from the plane wall 11. Heating gases pass successively through said tubes 3 and 4 in furnaces II and I to a chimney flue 15. The furnace lid 13 carries a solids inlet pipe 7 and a gas outlet pipe 8 and a solids outlet pipe 10 is provided in casing 1. Material is dried in furnace I and calcined in furnace II and may be cooled in a similar device in which cooling gas is circulated through the tubes 3 and 4.
