Abstract
1,222,326. Electric incandescent lamp. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 3102l/69 Heading HlF. An electric incandescent lamp comprises an envelope having a tungsten filament therein, an inert filling gas and tribromosilane which acts as a reactive transport gas. During operation of the lamp, the envelope is at at least 300 C., the filament has a life of up to 250 hours and the luminous efficacy of the lamp is at least 20 lumens per watt. In two embodiments a projector lamp and a photographic lamp with tungsten filaments are filled with a mixture of SiHBr 3 , CH 2 Br and Ar with or without N 2 . The tribromosilane acts as a getter for oxygen and water and thus prevents a water-cycle in the lamp. It is stated that SiH 2 Br 2 and SiB g Br are unsuitable for inclusion in the fill gas.
