[Also in Divisions C2 and G2] A composition comprises a hydrophilic colloid (gelatin) and one or more aliphatic polyoxymethylene glycol-carboxylic acid diesters, which may be represented by the formula wherein R represents an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a haloalkyl group and n is an integer in the range from 2 to 20. These compounds harden the hydrophilic colloid when the composition is treated with an alkaline liquid such as a photographic developer.
