Abstract

1391009 Polyacetylenic carboxylic acid salts EASTMAN KODAK CO 8 June 1972 [14 June 1971] 26799/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] New polyacetylenic compounds of general formula where A<SP>+</SP> is an ammonium or substituted ammonium ion; B is a group of formula -CH 3 , -COO-, -COOR<SP>4</SP>, -CONHR<SP>5</SP>, or -OCONHR<SP>7</SP> where R<SP>4</SP> is H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, R<SP>5</SP> is C 3 -C 10 alkyl which may be substituted, R<SP>6</SP> is alkyl or phenyl and R<SP>7</SP> is C 1 -C 8 alkyl which may be substituted, phenyl or substituted phenyl; n is at least 2; and x and y are each 0 or an integer from 1 to 10; are used in photographic materials. They may be prepared from known polyacetylenic compounds by known methods. For example, amine salts of amidesubstituted carboxylic acids may be prepared from polyynes having both carboxylic acid and carboxylic ester groups by treatment with an amine. Acid treatment of this salt yields the amide-substituted carboxylic acid which can in turn be treated with a different amine to form a different amine salt of an amide-substituted carboxylic acid.
