Abstract
1,221,988. Oxidation in the presence of a vanadium catalyst. PROGIL. 5 Aug., 1968 [3 Aug., 1967], No. 37276/68. Heading C2C. A process for the oxidation of an organic compound, capable of oxidation in the presence of a vanadium catalyst, comprises oxidizing the organic compound with a per-acid or organic hydroperoxide in the liquid phase in the presence, as catalyst of an alkyl vanadate of the formula (R) 3 VO 4 in which R is an alkyl radical preferably having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and may be present as the reaction product of vanadium pentoxide and an excess of aliphatic alcohol. The alkyl vanadate may be present in an amount of 0À01 to 5% by weight calculated as vanadium, based on the weight of the reaction mixture. In examples n-propyl vanadate is prepared from V 2 O 5 and n-propanol and used in the production of glycidol from allyl alcohol.
