Abstract

1,221,767. I.C. engine fuel injectors. SOC. DES PROCEDES MODERNES D'INJECTION. June 11, 1969 [June 11, 1968], No.29518/69. Heading F1B. In an electromagnetic fuel injector having a plate-like armature 7 coupled to the valve member 8 by a hollow shaft 6, the valve member is biased to close the spray nozzle 10 by a coil spring 11 housed in the hollow shaft. A coil 3 is mounted on a plastics former 4 in a laminated rectangular core 5 with its corners, Fig. 2 (not shown), touching the housing part 1 and located axially by a housing part 2. A plastics spacer 13 is arranged between the armature 7 and core 5 and it may be annular or star-shaped, Fig.3 (not shown). The spring compression may be adjusted by suitably dimensioning the abutment 12 and the valve lift may be adjusted by suitably dimensioning the housing part 2, the armature 7 and the spacer 13. A spacer (21), Fig. 4 (not shown), may be provided between the housing part 2 and the core 5, adjustment of the spacer thickness determining the valve lift. Slots (22), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be milled in the armature 7 to reduce eddy currents. The armature may be substantially rectangular and formed of laminations, Figs.6 and 7 (not shown). The valve member 8 may be integral with the shaft (7a), Fig. 8 (not shown).
