Abstract

Ammonia; nitrogen oxides.-These are obtained synthetically by electric treatment in an apparatus in which the current is produced by forcing the reacting gases to rotate in a magnetic field. Combustion gases, air, or steam may be used, or combustion may take place in the apparatus itself. For nitrogen oxides, the combustion gases may contain excess of air, or the oxygen may be obtained by decomposition of the carbonic acid or steam. The combustion air and fuel may be preheated by the gaseous products, and the air may be led around the apparatus. Most of the heat of combustion may be utilized for raising steam, burning tiles, and other purposes. Ammonia is obtained from a mixture of steam-and combustion gases.
