Abstract
1,221,550. Treating waste water. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 22 July, 1968 [21 July, 1967], No. 34971/68. Heading C1C Waste water is treated in an activated sludge plant by biologically decomposing impurities in the presence of a bacteriostatically effective concentration of a disinfectant, whereby the production of excess sludge is prevented. The disinfectant may be a phenol, particularly a nitrophenol, a soluble cyanide, e.g. potassium cyanide, an organotin compound, e.g. triphenyl tin acetate, mycelium refuse from the manufacture of antibiotics, or toluene.
