Abstract

1,221,317. Cutting and welding by fusions. ROMANIA ACADEMIA REPUBLICH SOCIALISTE MANAGER OF. 17 April, 1968 [17 April, 1967], No. 18180/68. Headings B3R and B3V. [Also in Divisions B2 and H5] A plasma arc generator establishes an arc between a tungsten electrode 1 and a nozzle 2. Air or other gaseous mixture Qp introduced into the nozzle through a pipe 5 is caused to rotate by its passage through helical channels 6a. Air or other gaseous mixtures e.g. methane, hydrogen, Qs is injected through a pipe 12 and caused to rotate by its passage through helical channels a around the nozzle 2. The arc is caused to rotate by coils 8 and 10 on ferromagnetic cores 9, 11. The nozzles 2 receives D.C. through a resistor R1, cable 22, connector 23a, coil 10, screw 23b and body 18 of the nozzle. Low pressure zones are created around the electrode and the nozzle, and the arc is concentrated between the electrode and a metal workpiece P. For cutting, the gases Q P , Q S , and the arc inside and outside the nozzle, all rotate in the same sense. For welding or built up welding with a welding wire, the arc rotates in opposite senses inside and outside the nozzle, and the arc rotates in an opposite sense to the gas Q P or Q S inside or outside the nozzle. For metalizing or ceramic deposits, the metallic or ceramic powder is introduced through pipe 12 and channels a, which are then straight. The generator may work with or without a transferred arc gas QE, which is part of gas Q P , is evacuated through helical channels b and an ejector 19 and is reintroduced through pipe 12 with gas Q S . Cooling water circulates the electrode holder 7a, 7b by ducts 14 (15, Fig. 3), and the nozzle 2 by ducts (20, 21, Fig. 4). The generator may alternatively be used with alternating single- or poly-phrase systems. In a three-phase system (Fig. 6) the three phases (R, S, T) are connected respectively to the electrode (29) and two mutually insulated nozzles (30, 31). The nozzles have coils (32, 33) and three arcs (c, d, e) are established. A reaction gas may be introduced between the two nozzles to promote chemical reactions.
