Abstract

1,220,864. Addressing - machines. PITNEYBOWES Inc. 2 May, 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 20806/68. Heading B6D. [Also in Division B8] A plate hopper for receiving metal address plates 20 in an addressing machine comprises a front wall 12, a pair of side walls 10 and a bottom wall 22, the bottom wall being attached to one side wall and spaced from the other side wall to permit plates to be fed from the hopper, the front wall 12 having a vertical slot 16 for receiving a pin 54 on which a weighted member 50 is mounted, the assembly of walls and weighted member being pivotable from a feeding position to a loaded position shown in dotted lines. The bottom wall 22 is spaced from the front wall 12 to permit pusher members on a chain 24 to engage the lowermost plate in the hopper, a gate 46 being spring urged into a position closing the space between the bottom and front walls to prevent plates from sliding out of the hopper whilst in the loading position, the gate being held open by engagement with a stop 48 whilst in the feeding position. The weight 50 can be slid upwardly, and the hopper pivoted into the loading position, by means of a handle 58. When the hopper is in the feeding position, the stack of plates rests on a track 18 and clear of the bottom wall 22.
