Abstract

1,220,848. Rotary pumps and motors. MONO PUMPS Ltd. May 23, 1969 [June 5, 1968], No.26743/68. Heading F1F. An eccentric rotary pump or motor comprising a stator, a rotor eccentrically rotatable with respect to the stator, and a flexible shaft secured to the rotor to drive the rotor or receive drive therefrom, the flexible drive-shaft being coated with a non-permeable and non-porous layer of material. Applied to a rotary internally-meshing helical gear pump, a housing 11, Fig.1, mounts a resilient stator 10 having a helically-threaded bore 12 within which a helically-threaded rotor 13 having one start more or less than the stator eccentrically rotates. The rotor 13 is screw-threadedly attached to a drive shaft 15 having a coating of a chlorinated polyether, nitral rubber or epoxy resin. The shaft at each end includes an enlarged portion 16 covered by the coating which sealingly engages in a countersunk bore 23 in the rotor and a similar bore in the drive or driven member (not shown) to protect the shaft against the pumped material which is often corrosive liquids or powders. The proportions of the shaft 15, e.g., 60 ins. long and 0À75 ins. diameter, are such to permit the shaft to flex sufficiently to allow for the eccentricity of the rotor, the layer 21 preventing corrosion fatigue. In another embodiment, in which the rotor may be rotated in either direction, the rotor includes an enlarged diameter bore 38, Fig.3, extending substantially through the rotor and a screw-threaded portion 43 having a right-hand thread and a screwthreaded portion 45 having a left-hand thread which engages a lock-nut 46. In modifications, the screw-threaded portion 43 may be replaced by complementary tapers on the rotor and shaft and the screw-threaded portion 45 by screw-threaded bores in the end of the shaft into which a locking screw is inserted.
