Abstract

1,220,721. Railway track aligning machines. F. PLASSER. 17 Jan., 1968 [23 Jan., 1967], No. 2495/68. Heading E1G. The chassis 4 of a railway track aligning vehicle is provided midway of its length with two lateral shifting mechanisms which act simultaneously on the two rails 1, each mechanism comprising one or more flanged rollers 10 mounted on a carrier 7 which is moved about a pivot 6 by a shifting ram 14. As shown each rail 1 is engaged by a pair of rollers 10 mounted for free pivotal movement about a common vertical axis and removably mounted in holders 9 which are swung about pivots 8 by rams 13. The rams 13 may be used to raise the rollers out of use, but in operation a common fluid pressure is supplied to the rams 13, 14 so that the rollers 10 are urged downwardly with a force proportioned to the lateral shifting force. The vehicle, Fig. 1 (not shown), is also provided with forwardly cantilevered track-lifting means (22, 26) ballast tampers (23), levelling sight (24), and retractable alignment reference trolleys (17.. 20). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,065,638.
