Abstract

1,220,711. Making electrical plugs. HEYMAN MFG. CO. 21 May, 1968 [22 May, 1967], No. 24289/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A moulded plug connector, Fig. 3, comprises an earth contact 20 formed from a strip of metal bent back on itself, each limb having embossed therein a trough-like portion 35, 36 of semicircular cross-section, the portions of the limbs adjacent portions 35, 36 being flat, and corresponding flat portions contacting one another so that the trough-like portions 35, 36 together form a totally enclosed tube. The free end 38 of one limb is bent at right-angles to form a projection 37 for keying to the material of the moulded connector body 25, and the free end of the other limb comprises a crimping ferrule 22 for connecting contact 20 to earth wire 27 of cable 30. The line and neutral contacts 21 comprise bent-over metal strips, intermediate portions of the limbs being bent slightly outwards; and the free ends of the limbs being formed as those of earth contact 20. Multiple sets of contacts 20, 21 are formed by passing a strip of metal, e.g. brass, through a press wherein it is subjected to a series of punching, blanking, shearing, shaping and folding steps (Fig. 1).
