Abstract

1,220,587. Polysiloxane / aminoplast / aminemodified epoxy resin textile-treating compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 Sept., 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 37884/67. Headings C3B, C3R and C3T. [Also in Division D1] A textile-treating composition comprises (a) 100 p.b.w. of an organopolysiloxane containing silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms (b) 10-500 p.b.w. of a thermosetting resin, (c) 1-50 p.b.w. of a catalyst for (b), and (d) 50-300 p.b.w. of the reaction product of an epoxy resin with a polyamine, there being 1-5 epoxy groups in the resin per active hydrogen atom in the polyamine. Preferably, the siloxane (a) contains 0À25-1 H atoms per Si atom, the organic groups being methyl, ethyl or phenyl; the resin (b) is a urea- or melamine-formaldehyde resin, optionally methylated, trimethylol ethyleneurea or dimethylol hexahydropyrimidone; the catalyst (c) is zinc chloride or nitrate, MgCl 2 or an amine hydrochloride; product (d) is obtained from diphenylol alkane/epichlorhydrin resins and poly-ethylene- or -propylene - polyamines or N : N - bis(3 - aminopropyl)methylamine at 20-70‹ C. in an organic solvent; the composition comprises 0À5-5 wt. per cent of (a). In examples (a) is a mixture of trimethylsilylended polydimethylsiloxane and polymethylhydrogensiloxane, (b) is a urea- or melamineformaldehyde resin, (c) is MgCl 2 , Zn(NO 3 ) 2 or an amine hydrochloride, and (d) is obtained from a polyglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and diethylene triamine or N : N - bis(3 - aminopropyl)methylamine; the products are dilute aqueous solutions also optionally containing urea, and are used to treat fabrics of cotton or cotton/polyester, which are then dried, and cured at 150-160‹ C. for 5 mins.
