Abstract

1,219,194. Polyolefin compositions. AVISUN CORP. 3 May, 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 21083/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions C6-C7] Polyolefin compositions suitable for plating comprise 0À1 to 2 weight per cent, based on the polymer, of a compatible surface-active agent. Specified polymers are of thylene, propylene, butene-1, 3-methylbutene-1, 4-methylpentene-1 and styrene, and copolymers of ethylene and propylene and of olefins with acrylates, methacrylates, vinyl esters and acrylonitrile. The compositions may contain compatible sulphur compounds, e.g. dialkyl thiodialkanoates, and conventional fillers, e.g. asbestos and glass fibres, carbon and silica; and may be shaped into articles which may be electroplated. Preferred surface-active agents are condensates of ethylene and/or propylene oxides, optionally with alkyl phenols, fatty alcohols, alkylmercaptans, fatty acids and partial esters thereof with polyhydric compounds. Examples describe compositions comprising (1) polypropylene and isooctylphenol/ethylene oxide condensates, optionally together with (2) calcium stearate and dilauryl or distearyl thiodipropionate, and (3) talc.
