1,218,547. Polymerization of dyes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 April, 1968 [19 April, 1967; 27 Sept., 1967], Nos. 18006/67 and 43932/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions C2, C4 and D1] In Examples 10-13 and 111 azo dyes which contain pentadienoylamino-groups are homo- or co-polymerized to form coloured polymers. Polymerization is effected by heating in diethyleneglycol-dimethyl ether optionally in presence of α-α<SP>1</SP>-azobisisobutyronitrile, or in methyl methacrylate containing α-α<SP>1</SP>-azobisisobutyronitrile or in aqueous dioxan under nitrogen in presence of ammonium persulphate and sodium metabisulphite. The homopolymers may be incorporated in polyethylene.
