In a chain sprocket adapted for use with round-link chain, successive teeth are joined by a web 34, a circumferential groove 36 separates the limbs 30 of the teeth and divides the web into two ribs 38, and recesses 52 are formed in the webs 34 to provide clearance for the escape of material such as mine dirt. The extremities 55, 57 of a stripper blade 18 protrude into the groove 36 to clear dirt out of the groove.
